All sunscreens are not created equal! The FDA announced yesterday that it is taking a much-needed look at cleaning up sunscreens' ingredient and marketing act. It acknowledged that there are only TWO (!!) active sunscreen ingredients that it currently deems safe and effective: zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. ALL others are either unsafe or under review.
Unfortunately, many people don't want to use mineral sunscreens that use zinc oxide and titanium dioxide because they tend to leave a pasty white film on your skin. Not so with this Thinkbaby product -- it's awesome.

Find out more about the FDA proposed regulations and my No. 1 clean mineral sunscreen recommendation on the latest blog. badassandhealthy.com

Flower power. January detoxing with this liver-supporting chrysanthemum tea. Also love my new Tea Forte mug—a Christmas present to myself to enjoy more loose-leaf teas this year! Sipping pretty.
How’s that for a thought provoked? Lessons from @hannahbrencher this morning @atlanta_cm. “Keep your word or tell the truth” is something I try to live by. I’m going to show up if I told you I would be there; otherwise, I will tell you the truth about why I’m canceling on you. (But 99% of the time, I will show up because I made a commitment.) Honesty and integrity is #badassandhealthy. In the same vein, saying no to something you don’t want to do or someone you don’t really want to get together with is also honest and good for you. Have the honest conversations. Be honest with yourself. Show up and do the work from the “ground level.” Be true to you. #cmhonesty
New ‘do! If anyone has any doubt that natural hair color can go super blonde, well... proof is in the pudding. Balayage + snips by @victoria_alexis_gutierrez @aviary
Summer colds are a bunch of BS! But you know what’s not? This delicious, puréed white bean, vegetable and herb with crunchy bacon bits crockpot soup. Prep the night before then throw together and slow cook in the morning and you’ll be twirling around the kitchen (ok maybe that’s just me) because you don’t have to cook when the workday’s done! Finely chop 3 large carrots, 3 celery stalks, a medium yellow onion and 3 garlic cloves. Add 1 tsp each of dried or fresh thyme, rosemary and Italian parsley (or more depending on how herby you like it), plus a bay leaf and 1 Tbsp salt and pepper. Set aside in Tupperware in fridge. Rinse and soak 1 lb of dried white beans in 6 cups of water overnight. You can also use canned beans (choose organic, no sodium) for a faster cook, but dried takes on the flavors of the dish and will always be more delicious especially if you’re crock-potting. In the AM, put all the ingredients together in the crockpot, throw in a Tablespoon of olive oil and 6 cups of broth (I prefer homemade chicken broth but you can use veggie or chicken, homemade or store bought!). Set to 8 hours on low. When done, I like to emulsify with a handheld blender for a few seconds so that there is a mixture of puréed and whole beans. Salt and pepper to taste. Now for the champion ingredient that you carnivores might want to add... bacon. Cook in the oven or a toaster oven at 425 for approximately 15 minutes depending on the thickness of the bacon. Get it nice and crispy, chop it up and sprinkle like a garnish on top of bowls. Yummmmmy. 😘
